With so many widely known celebs falling out of "corporate favor" these days, it's only a matter of time before companies start looking for lesser known stars with better track records. The always edgy Macy Gray began 2007 at a concert in Barbados where she got in a bit of trouble for using profanity (which was part of the show), but she wasn't aware that it was against the law in that country. She handled the situation with class, and gave a public apology that night to the fans and Barbados. March saw the release of Gray's fourth studio album (sixth overall), entitled Big. Two singles, "Finally Made Me Happy" and "Shoo Be Doo", have been released from the album. "What I Gotta Do", another track from the album, is featured on the Shrek the Third soundtrack. It is largely considered as Gray's comeback album, after a four-year hiatus since her last studio album. And let me tell you, "Big" hit Big with me. And Big also grabbed attention from a corporate sponsor. Mixed Chicks Corp., a haircare manufacturer, has jumped on-board The BIG tour bus. A Mixed Chicks representative said, "Macy's unique style fits with our company image. She's classy and anything but average."

Big has been critically acclaimed and seen as her best work yet. It features collaborations with Natalie Cole, Fergie, Justin Timberlake, and will.i.am, who co-executive produced the album with Gray. Big is the second release from will.i.am's record label, will.i.am Music Group, after Fergie's The Dutchess.

Gray also recently opened up a music academy called The Macy Gray Music Academy and it was the scene of MTV's Punk'd because of black mold in the building. Gray has been highly praised for her work with the academy and has given underprivileged children and teenagers the chance to perform.

...types: We realize hair is hard to place into categories. But here are some basic classifications with celbrity examples, that may help you decide what type of straight or curly hair you have. It is important to note that within the wavy to kinky categories, there are hair classes ranging from "A" to "C"... "C" being more curly.

Note: Using this guide when considering what and how to pick your products will help. The thickness of your hair will determine the amounts of product you need. Some of us have thick hair and may assume we are in, for example, hair class 3C, but really we are just a "thick" 3B. The best thing to do...experiment.

They come in a range of sizes, textures and colors. Some call them a blessing. I call them a curse. When it comes to having a head of kinky, coarse or frizzy curls, learning how to tame them can become quite a hassle. I've scrunched, twisted, texturized, diffused and deep-conditioned, and my hair seems to remain the same -- a mangled mess. The pursuit of well-kept locks keeps us buying. In the end, though, often all we get is the same frizzy hair and money wasted.

Mixed Chicks Shampoo -- Niche Hair Care Not natural based

First let me confess that I am not a "mixed chick," at least not in the biracial context. That aside, I loved the Mixed Chicks shampoo. As a woman with mature, shoulder length locks, I typically end up using almost half a bottle of shampoo in order to get any kind of lather. Mixed Chicks shampoo didn't feel at all watered down and didn't get lost in my thick hair. I purposely didn't use any conditioner but not only did my hair still feel soft and moisturized, but my hands were left unbelievably soft too. As an extra bonus, I barely put a dent in the bottle - using maybe 1/8 of the 10oz bottle. I've already recommended it to my sister who is looking for moisture and curl definition for her very thick hair. Check out their website for their other products.

Pros:

won't strip moisture from hair
curl definition
pleasant scent
substantial enough for the thickest hair
great value

Cons:

can't find in most stores
may cause build up over time

Overall: This is a product I will definitely use again, and the quality makes me interested in trying their other products as well. This could also be a great gift, especially for a teenager struggling to control frizzy hair without weighing it down.
